Environment & Social Impact Assessment Manager

Purpose of job

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, he/she will the embedding of a world class culture of Environment/Social excellence in all company operations in Cameroon


Key Roles and Accountability
- Contribute to and supervise the elaboration of an Environmental and Social Impact
Assessment Study compliant to International Institutions requirements
- Interaction with international, national and local authorities and NGO’s, including
technical meetings and analyses of due diligence reports
- Manage external Environment/Social consultants
- Supervise and quality control on services provided by Contractors and Engineering
Companies
- Delivery innovative knowledge related to the ESIA discipline within the Company
- Provide operational support in managing environment and social impacts and
ongoing stakeholder engagement
- Identify potential social and environmental impacts of the project on its operational
sites
- Manage and implement the project with focus on resettlement (including data
analysis and survey design) of affected people, community development and capacity
building
- Conduct analytical work that assesses negative impact as well as development
benefits to local environment and communities
- Design approaches, general frameworks and mechanisms that will contribute to the
enhancement of positive development benefits to local communities


Key Qualifications

- Bi-lingual French and English; in the case of equal skill sets for the job, Cameroonian candidates will be given preference.
- University degree in Environment & Social Management or equivalent in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology
- 10 years experience overall, with at least 5 year experience as Environment & Social Impact Assessment Manager in mining, oil or similar industry
- Knowledge and experience on Environment & Social Impact Assessment systems, tools, and procedures. Demonstrable commitment to good corporate governance
- Knowledge and experience on legislation, conventions and treaties relevant to ESIA (Equatal, IFC, National Legislation, etc)
- Strong commercial acumen and solid project directing and management experience
- Experience in budget preparation and management.
Other skills
- Highly IT literate, with demonstrable organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- A strong and demonstrable background in building and managing a staff working in remote environments
