Position Title:             IT Systems Engineer

Department:               Information & Technology Department

Reports to:                  Head of Infrastructure

Position description – Purpose (Key roles and responsibilities)  

The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for the effective day to day administration of the APCC IT network and systems, to assure provision of reliable, stable, optimal network services to the company users. He or she also undertakes ensuring the integrity of IT Technical Rooms and managing IT hardware assets.

Position description – Accountabilities (including KPIs)  

Principal deliverables and accountabilities include:

·         Key Technologies: Directly responsible for the proper network administration, installation, configuration, maintenance and support of all company Servers such as: Domain Controllers, Active Directory, File and Print, Messaging,  Virtualisation, VPN, Applications distribution, Linux, Network Monitoring CCTV and Access Control systems. Will also manage LAN and WAN activities.

• Strategic Direction: Assists the Head of Infrastructure in developing the Infrastructure strategy, plans, initiatives and direction in line with departmental and corporate vision, objectives and plans.
• IT Service Management: Plays a key role in the IT Support Model in managing problems, changes, capacity, availability, capacity, assets, releases and business continuity of IT network and systems in line with ITIL v3 and Addax Petroleum standards and best practices.

·         Projects Management: Manages projects assigned by the Head of Infrastructure and the IT Manager from initiating to closing, according to PMI standards (PMBoK version 4) and other industry standards, ensuring the objectives are met or exceeded, while balancing constraints of scope, time, cost, quality, risks and customer expectations and requirements.

• Technology Advancement: Stays abreast with technological advancements and innovations, especially on Server and Network systems technologies.

·         Asset Management: Responsible for the proper management of IT Assets, ensuring inventory lists, labelling, and lifecycle management is effective.

• Stakeholder Relationship: Develops and maintains excellent and smooth working relationships with business customers and external stakeholders.
• Contracts Management: Responsible for managing assigned Infrastructure contracts as Contract Holder in line with company standards and practices.
• Performance Management: Supports the drive towards excellent, top class performance, uptime and availability of the company Servers and Network System under his responsibility. Provides regular and ad-hoc performance reports with specific metrics and key performance indicators as required, to the Head of Infrastructure and IT Manager (if required).
• Finance Management: Works with the Head of Infrastructure in developing and managing the Infrastructure part of the departmental budget.

·         Information Security: Works in close collaboration with Information Management and Information Security Analyst to ensure proper maintenance and support of Access control and CCTV systems in the company.

• Remote Site Support: Supports and implements fast and efficient IT support to remote sites (residences, Base and Offshore).
• Compliance: (i) HSSE: Complies with HSSE standards and policy in carrying out his activities, ensuring infrastructure team and external stakeholders do likewise; (ii) Audits: Complies and takes part in IT audits as required by the company.
• Managing the installation and usage of 3^rd party Internet services onshore (offices and residences) and offshore.

·         Maintain a consistent server uptime of 99% on average annually especially file and print, email, internet, intranet, blackberry, backup and antivirus servers.

·         Managing a complex technical mixture of servers and other systems and platforms, across various teams and stakeholders (Infrastructure and Applications team members, APC IT Geneva and vendors).

·         Managing a smart, real-time alert system within the Infrastructure Monitoring platform to notify IT staff round the clock.

·         Ensure monitoring of IT systems in remote sites like the Base, Mt. Cameroon and offshore.

·         Ensuring proper execution of 3^rd level purchase, installations, maintenance, support and administration with vendors under contract.

·         Ensures that IT Infrastructure Assets are properly managed as per Asset Management policy.

·         Ensures preventive maintenance of Servers and Network Systems under his direct responsibility within the Preventive Maintenance program.

    

Position description - Special Challenges

Experience and Qualifications Required (capabilities):    

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

This position requires that the employee have a solid technical and practical knowledge (at least 5 years) on:

·         Microsoft Server systems technologies (Active Directory, Exchange, SQL etc.), TCP/IP protocols (DNS, DHCP, WINS and LDAP), Symantec backup Exec, NetApps, Server Virtualization (VMware), Redhat Linux, Cloud Computing, Internet and Intranet technologies.

·         Knowledge of Network Monitoring systems e.g. Nagios, Vessel Monitoring systems (AIS and IVMS), IT Service Management (Footprints).

·         Practical knowledge and experience in Routing and Switching and Security systems like CCTV and Access Control.

·         Knowledge of IT Technical room integrity and environmental requirements.

·         Basic understanding of the upstream hydrocarbons business.

·         At least a Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer sciences or related fields.

·         Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE) or related professional certification.

·         Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)/Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).

·         VMware Certified Professional (VCP).

·         Project Management certification (CAPM, PMP etc.).

·         Linux Redhat certifications (RHCT, RHC)

·         Bilingual (Fluent in both oral and written English and French).
